Czech photography of the first half of the 20th century

The diploma thesis "Czech surreal photography in the first half of the 20th century" consists of two parts - theoretical and practical. The theoretical part conveys main ideas of surrealism in the world and its connection to photography. This part also contains chapters that are related to the development of surrealism in Czechia, mainly in the first half of the 20th century. There are parts dedicated to the three of Czech artists - Emila Medková, Miroslav Hák and Jindřich Štyrský. The practical part of the diploma thesis includes realization of the art photography cycle named "Věra Vacková".
Ervin Schulhoff in the interwar cultural context for needs of modern school

Ervin Schulhoff in the interwar cultural context for needs of modern school This thesis deals with life and works of a Czech-German music composer of the interwar period Ervin Schulhoff. The first part of the thesis is concerned with composer's life in the interwar cultural context, the second part focuses on his works. Detailed attention is paid to the period when Schulhoff was influenced by interwar avand-garda movement, particularly by Dadaism and jazz dance music and also Neoclassicism. The third part handles the issue of the use of Schulhoff's work related to his life at nowaday school and brings some ideas and possibilities of use in school music lessons with intersubject overlap. All work is completed with sheet music examples and images serving for better illustration of the subject. In the Appendices are included more pictures and photographs illustrating the composer's life and also the list of Ervin Schulhoff's compositions.
Machine without a cause

The work focuses on the machines in the art of receiving an entirely new dimension. The work deals with machines in the socio-cultural, technological and artistic context in particular. The theoretical part is focused on Dadaism, his heirs and other international and Czech artists who devote a similar theme. She concentrates on paintings, sculptures and objects in which the machine or the machine elements depicted often absurd or other totally unique way and diverge primary importance machine. The work deals with artists such as Francis Picabia and Jean Tinguely and their work in detail the work emphasis on the confrontation of works of art and their development path. Didactic part deals with an identical theme. It focuses on the application possibilities of the topic and its use in the concept art education. It provides a total of four art series designed primarily for lower secondary schools (ISCED 2), the themes of the machine without cause. The artwork contains a set of photographs "Traces machines" that affect their own contributions on the basis of real inspiration, which is the subject of the work.
Using Nothing We Want to Change the the World

This work focuses on the evolution of Dada and its manifestation in Czech literature, especially in the twenties of the twentieth century, but, of course, it focuses on later manifestations too. It focuses on the main features of dadaism, like abhor technics, mysticism and rituality, destruction, universality, dada language or humour. Application of dada to czech discourse would be unable, without defining these features. This work focuses on real or potential dadaistic manifestations and theoretical reception in the czech discourse, which is represented by Karel Teige on the side of oppositors and the Devetsil group of Brno on the side of propagators. The last chapter is about the relations between dadaism and carnival culture, that wat theoretically formulated by Bachtin. I focuses especially on identical properties. Abstract This thesis focuses on the situation of a substantial subject in the historical development of the surrealist experience and confronts it with our original postmodern interpretation of thoughts of early Marx. The surrealist consciousness is based on a dialectical opposition between rational and irrational elements of cognitive processes. André Breton apprehends this dialectics under the perspective of love life and relates it to values of love, freedom and poetry. Nevertheless, this conception changes in the immanent development of the surrealist consciousness from Breton over the work and thoughts Salvador Dalí and Mikuláš Medek to Vratislav Effenberger. Effenberger removes positive values from surrealism and puts emphasis on the critical functions of the irrational. On the psychological field, all these ideas are based on the conception of the unconscious which means there is the substantial approach in them. The theoretical part deals with the life and work of Jan Švankmajer, and the directions that determine his work. The practical part is devoted to the creation of a book that serves as a guide to cuisine for children of preschool or younger school age.
Reflexion on the aesthetic of early videoart

This doctoral thesis treats of the early video art of the 1960s and 70s from four points of view: in chapter one the artistic and technological genesis of video art is analyzed; chapter two is dedicated to a scholarly analysis of video art on whose basis the relation of video art to other arts is determined (especially film and fine art), the chapter, furthermore, examines the properties of video as a medium; chapter three deals with the reception of video art by the audience, its mode of depiction and aesthetic properties which are demonstrated on specific examples; special attention is focused on temporality of video art; the final chapter is dedicated to feminist video art whose task it was to help emancipate women. The aim of the thesis is to present a comprehensive overview of early video art with emphasis on its artistic and aesthetic properties. The thesis does not merely rest on valid scholarly theories - it also analyzes specific art pieces which are documented in an extensive graphic appendix.
